IMPACT FACTORS FOR INVESTIGACIONES ECONÓMICAS Print

Impact factors are essential tools to rank academic journals. However, they were not available for Spanish Economics journals until recently. IN-RECS (Impact index of Spanish social-science journals) is a bibliometric index elaborated by the "Grupo de Investigación en Evaluación de la Ciencia y de la Comunicación Científica" at the University of Granada, which has emerged to fill that gap. INVESTIGACIONES ECONÓMICAS is ranked first in citations per article published for the 1994-2005 period.

Additionally, Francisco Javier Velázquez (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) has elaborated impact factors for 27 Spanish Economics journals for the period 1999-2001 in the paper entitled "El impacto de las revistas científicas de Economía en España". He takes into account all articles cited with a life of up to 8 years and purges self-citations and differences in the propensity of articles to cite other articles published in the same journal. With this metholodoly, INVESTIGACIONES ECONÓMICAS has the second largest impact factor among Spanish journals in Economics.

Furthermore, the paper entitled "Prestigio de las revistas españolas de economía. Hábitos de trabajo de los profesores de los departamentos de economía de las Universidades públicas españolas", by Adelaida Román Román and Elea Jiménez Toledo (CINDOC), is based on a survey answered by 800 Spanish University Professors and Lecturers in Economics. INVESTIGACIONES ECONÓMICAS is the Spanish Economics journal with the highest valuation by academics.
