  1. Manuscripts may only be submitted electronically, to the web page: http://services.bepress.com/ie. Acceptable formats are: PDF, Microsoft Word, or RTF. (Upon acceptance of your paper, you would be asked for the files corresponding to the article in their native format, e.g. Microsoft Word, Scientific WorkPlace, etc.) A single file should be uploaded, containing the text and any tables and figures. When creating PDF files please use "Acrobat Distiller" rather than "Acrobat PDF Writer" and remember to select the "embed all fonts" option. During the online submission, you will be prompted to enter the article title, author(s), keywords, JEL classification codes, and abstract.

  2. Manuscripts should be written in English and should be unpublished originals currently not submitted for publication at any other journal. As of Jannuary 1 2010 INVESTIGACIONES ECONÓMICAS will merge with the Spanish Economic Review and will become SERIES. Thereofore, any paper submitted to IE today will be processed as a submission to SERIES. INVESTIGACIONES ECONÓMICAS will acknowledge receipt of manuscripts at the end of this online submission process.

  3. Manuscripts submitted to INVESTIGACIONES ECONÓMICAS will be reviewed using a standard refereeing process to assist editors in their publication decisions. This process will normally involve no more than three months.

  4. Upon acceptance of an article, authors will be asked to transfer copyright of the article to the publishers, Fundación SEPI. This transfer will ensure the mutual protection of authors and publisher's self interests.

  5. Empirical papers will only be published at INVESTIGACIONES ECONÓMICAS if the data used in their analyses is clearly and accurately documented and available to any other researcher. INVESTIGACIONES ECONÓMICAS is open to the publication of replication studies checking the robustness of empirical articles published in the journal.

  6. Sections should be assembled in the following order. Text, appendices, references, tables, and figures. Figures and tables, irrespective of their size, should be each on a separate page.

  7. Footnotes should be numbered consecutively with arabic numerals. Any equation numbers should be right-justified, and using arabic numerals. Figures should also be numbered in consecutive order and be professionally drawn to facilitate their reproduction.

  8. Bibliographical references will appear in the text as author(s) last name(s) and year of publication in parentheses (distinguishing a, b, etc., if there are several contributions corresponding to the same author(s) and year; e.g. Arrow (1962a)). References should be completed according to the following formats: Books: Tirole, J. (1988): The Theory of Industrial Organization, MIT Press, Cambridge, MA. Zellner, A. (1983): "Statistical theory and econometrics", in Z. Griliches and M.D. Intriligator (eds.), Handbook of Econometrics, vol. 1, North Holland, Amsterdam, pp.67-164; Articles: Arellano, M. and O. Bover (1990): "La econometría de datos de panel", Investigaciones Económicas 14, pp. 3-45; Working Papers, mimeos, PhD. theses, etc.: Moreno Martin, L. and D. Rodriguez (1998): "Export activity price and margins in Spanish export firms", Documento de Trabajo 9805, Fundación Empresa Pública.

  9. Authors may provide additional information (e.g. mathematical developments not included in the text, additional figures and tables) to help referees in a companion document entitled "Notes for the referees".
